Meet Elizabeth

If you've found me, there is a reason. You’re searching for someone who can help you. While you might be a little curious about who I am – you’re more interested in knowing if I’m the right counselor for you. You're wondering if I can help you. The answer is, yes, I can help you!

Welcome to Brave | Where healing begins

Elizabeth Hocker, M.Ed., LPC

My name is Elizabeth Hocker. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Columbia, Missouri. My passion is working with individuals and couples to recognize your worth and create meaningful connections. I've been privileged to find my calling as a Licensed Professional Counselor and I'm excited for the opportunity to work with you!

I love working with emerging adults and adults from all walks of life. I value diversity. I provide treatment for a variety of mental health issues, substance use disorders, and relationship concerns. Although I do treat an array of concerns, I’m particularly passionate about helping you with the following:

My Approach to Treatment

The foundation of treatment is build on honoring my client's values and personal experiences, creating a positive therapeutic relationship, and striving for clinical excellence.

My treatment method is integrated, blending a compassionate person-centered approach along with proven research and evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, trauma-focused therapies, among others.

My clients appreciate my ability to challenge them with compassion and humor. You aren't coming to counseling to have someone co-sign everything you say and do. You're looking for honest feedback and support which leads to progress. It’s common for us to get stuck in loops which are harmful to us. I won’t let you get stuck there long. You can also count on me to help you learn to get unstuck on your own.

Ultimately my approach is simple—I endeavor to remain authentic/genuine, empathetic, compassionate, honest, fully present and when necessary straightforward. I will strive to meet you where you are while challenging you to move towards where you wish to be.

We all have a unique story. I invite you to share your story with me. You are safe to be your authentic self. I ask you to explore those elements which collectively make you who you are. Because I invite you to be real with me, I pledge to be real with you. When you feel safe to be you, the real work can begin.

You'll find I believe in comfort over fashion as I'm typically wearing jeans and sitting with my feet propped on a small ottoman (partly because I'm short, but mostly because it's comfy). I encourage you to get comfortable as well, making your space your own! You'll also learn I use humor in my sessions, knowing laughter is sometimes the best medicine. I'm also transparent, so what you see is what you get. You'll never wonder what I think because I'll tell you.

At my core, I’m a helper! With an innate sense of compassion and the belief in the goodness of humanity, I see the best of who you are and your potential within

I'm honored to be a part of your journey towards healing, growth, and self-empowerment. I value your ability to sit with me and face your challenges. Therapy provides the spark you need, empowering yourself and creating the life you deserve. You are not alone. I'm ready to walk beside you, guiding and supporting you towards a better tomorrow. There is no better time than the present. Contact me today!
